[Speech entrainment in task-oriented dialogues with autistic and neurotypical children]

Speech entrainment is a process by which interlocutors adapt their verbal and non-verbal speech patterns to align with each other. Several theoretical models assume that speech entrainment relates to the Theory of mind (ToM), i.e. the understanding that others have thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives different from our own. The presentation reviews some observed patterns of speech entrainment in one population with impaired ToM, namely children with autism.

doc. Mgr. Pavlína Flajšarová, PhD.

[Reimagining the Wife of Bath: Intersections of Suburbanization, Gender, Power, and Identity in the Works by Geoffrey Chaucer, Jean Binta Breeze, Zadie Smith, and Patience Agbabi]

This presentation examines suburbanization in the Canterbury Tales, highlighting how suburban population growth affected societal, economic, and cultural norms during Chaucer's time. It delves into "The Wife of Bath's Tale" to reveal suburban impacts on medieval society and critiques the complexities like rural displacement and emerging social hierarchies. The study also interprets the pilgrimage motif as a symbol of societal convergence in Canterbury, akin to suburban areas. The aim is to deepen understanding of Chaucer’s insights into medieval transformations and their relevance in modern rewrites by Zadie Smith, Patience Agbabi, and Jean Binta Breeze, fostering discussions on urbanization, identity, and community.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Nitra!
